IMPORTANT INFO

Below you will find important information that you need to know before deciding kind of attributes you want to add to you site.  The internet is an ever changing place and new and amazing technologies are emerging on a daily bases.  Expert Site Design Company continually strives to stay on top of the latest technologies to better serve you.  Our number 1 goal is to build you a web site that not only is attractive, but one that will be compatible and functional with the large majority of internet browsers.

On this page you will find names of many of the internet technologies and some explanations about them and their browser compatibility.

Lets take a look at some common internet terms.

GIF (Graphics interchangeable format)

This image format is the best format to use for web images that use less then 256 colors, because it result in a smaller file size with higher quality. This is why most all buttons, banners, backgrounds, and other wed art is in the GIF format.

 JPG (JPEG file interchangeable format)

This image format is the best format to use for web images like picture that may have millions of colors, because it result in a smaller file size with higher quality. This why most all pictures like family photos, scenic photos or product photos are in the JPG format.

ANIMATED GIF

Animated gif's are all over the web and provide an easy way to enhance a web site with over loading it and making it slow to a crawl.  They are a little bigger in file size then a regular gif image, so you don't want to go over board with them.

ROLLOVER EFFECTS

Virtually can any gif image can be converted to a rollover.  A rollover is a button that when you click on it, actually looks like the button was depressed.  You see this effect used most commonly on feedback forms and order forms, but can be used almost anywhere.

HOVER BUTTONS

This a new technology for make buttons with different kinds of effects but it is not supported in older browser versions.

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)

HTML is the foundation for everything on the internet.  Html is behind every page the you view through you browser. You can see the html behind this page by clicking you right mouse button and clicking on VIEW SOURCE.  It is behind the scene telling the browser what to display for you to see.  Html is compatible with all browsers and is very stable.

DHTML (Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language)

Dhtml is the next generation of the html code and provides for some viewing enhancements and even some interaction from the viewer.  With dhtml you can create drop down list that automatically drop when the mouse pointer is place on it and many other cool things.  Dhtml is a very recent technology and is only fully supported by the most recent browsers versions like Internet Explorer (I.E.) 5.0, 5.5 & Netscape 6.0.  What this means is that viewers with older browser visiting a web site that uses dhtml, may not able to see or interact with the parts of a web site that are using dhtml codes.

JAVA SCRIPTING

Java scripting is essentially a programming language for the internet.  Java scripting not only allows for full interaction of the view, it also allows the user to input information and some time render results.  Writing a java script is like writing a computer program and is very complicated.  There many standard java scripts in use around the internet and they are generally stable depending on the writer.  Having a custom java script written is extremely expensive.  Although some simple java scripting can be run in browsers versions as old as IE. 3.0 it is generally not stable in these older browser versions.

MACROMEDIA FLASH

Macromedia Flash provides for an almost completely animated web experience, almost like watching a web video. It is faster then watching a video because it streams, which means it plays as it is downloading, and you can interact with some of the components.  It is a very recent technology and is advancing day by day. There were and are still are a lot of issues with this technology.  The first is compatibility and the second is speed.  If you are running the latest browser version with a fast internet connection and have the latest version of the macromedia flash player installed you should have very little problems.  But for people using old computers with slow connections speeds, they might as well not visit a sight using macromedia flash.

MACROMEDIA SHOCKWAVE

Macromedia Shockwave serves basically the same purpose as java scripting.  This technology is used a lot in online gaming communities and for the creation of web cartoons.  Needless to say, like macromedia flash you need a good computer and a fast connection to appreciate the attributes of this technology.
