Fast load speed is highly recommended. |
With so many tempting design options, many designers get so carried away with the design of a site that they lose site of the purpose of the site which is to bring in the business. Your sites design depends greatly on what your companies products or services are. First you must decide how big of a site you need to promote your products and/or services.
Here are some basic size designs examples and there are an infinite number of other options.
If you operate a local service such as a hotel or a bed and breakfast and are seeking to bring in the state, national or international tourist crowd. Then you may only need a two or three page site with your home page, your amenities page, and your local attractions page.
If you have products to offer then will need a home page, one or more product pages, and possible an ordering page.
Regardless of how little or big your site is, you want your visitors and potential customers to be able to find what they are looking for and get their questions answered as quick and as easy as possible. Internet users are a very fast pace group of individuals, they don't want to have to read your whole site to find out what they want to know. A well designed site will have links to all crucial information to help visitors navigate to the information they are seeking with ease.
When deciding on the content of a web site there are several factors that must be considered. First off, you want your site to be attractive and entertaining. You could have a web site that is as simple as typed letter, but how many people would actually read it! The use of colors, images, and graphics is what has made the internet what it is today, and if you want people to look at your site for more then a second you will have to pay a great deal of attention to graphical enhancement.
The other factor of a well designed site is load speed. Load speed is the time that it takes for a web page to completely open in a web browser. How many times have you gone to a site that takes forever to load and you sit looking at a blank screen for 20 seconds or more?
This is where graphical enhancement must be balanced with load speed. One day everybody on the internet will have a cable, DSL or a satellite modem and we will not have to worry as much about load speed. But right now there are still a lot of people using 28.8k modems, especially in other countries. Preferably a web page will load in under 30 seconds on a 28.8k modem under normal circumstances.
To achieve this balance between graphical enhancement and load speed it takes some very expensive programs and a lot of experience. It is in this area that most people are lost and need the experience and resources of a professional web designer like Expert Site Design Company.
